Dear Videolib-ers,

This is a second call from the American Library Association (ALA) Film &
Media Round Table (FMRT) for candidates to run for three officer positions
during ALA's 2019 elections: Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, Treasurer,
and FMRT representative on ALA Council, a new position that has been
created since our membership now exceeds 1% of the total membership of ALA
(meaning we are no longer a "small round table," and thus are entitled to
our own representative). All personal members in good standing of FMRT and
ALA are eligible to run. More information about the first two positions can
be found in the FMRT Bylaws
<http://www.ala.org/rt/vrt/governance/vrtbylaws/vrtbylaws> and Handbook
<http://www.ala.org/rt/sites/ala.org.rt/files/content/governance/ALA%20Film%20and%20Media%20Round%20Table%20Governance%20Document.docx>
documents
on our website, and more information about ALA Council can be found here
<http://www.ala.org/aboutala/basic-guide-ALA-council>. Please contact me
off list if you have any questions, or if you would like to nominate
yourself or someone else for one of these positions! The deadline to
complete the nomination process is February 1, 2019.

Thanks!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.

Congratulations on exceeding the 1% requirement, FMRT and Andy!

I just want to add my support for being involved in FMRT (the small but mighty group formerly known as VRT). It is an excellent way to learn about both video and film librarianship, ALA, and get some experience with nonprofit organizations and board relations.

I would also encourage you not to be scared off by the formal titles: the workload is minimal, though there’s freedom to create new initiatives if you are so inclined.

That’s just my two cents as a former board member, but if you have questions, ask Andy, me, or anyone else formerly on the board!

Laura
